AAPD national spokesperson Dr. Mario Ramos was featured in an online and print article with Mundo Hispanico about the importance of taking care of your children’s teeth. In addition, Dr. Ramos mentioned the importance of brushing, flossing and regular visits to the pediatric dentist. The entire interview was done in Spanish and here is a glance of the interview:

In regards to what parents can do, Ramos said, "The message is that Hispanic parents need to be active in their children's oral health. Parents need to be positive about oral health. You have to tell the child that the dentist is good, which will help. Siblings can also help set an important example."

"Los papás necesitan ser positivos", enfatizó el cubano. "Hay que decirle al niño que el dentista es bueno y que le va a ayudar. Los hermanos también pueden ayudar. El ejemplo es muy importante".

When asked if drinking milk can cause cavities in children, Ramos is quoted stating, "Milk itself does not cause cavities. The problem is that the teeth are covered with milk overnight."

"La leche en sí no causa las caries. El problema es que los dientes están cubiertos toda la noche con la leche", explicó Ramos.

The print version appeared in its November issue of Padres & Hijos. The article was posted online on November 4, 2013 in Spanish and can be found here http://mundohispanico.com/news/2013/nov/04/abre-la-boquita-ahhh/
